Speakers

Ben Turland - Parish Manager, CCO
Benjamin Turland is a missionary with Catholic Christian Outreach in Ottawa, serving alongside his wife, Megan, and their four children—Monica, Xavier, Gabriel, and Elizabeth. Originally from Salmon Arm, BC, Benjamin grew up without faith but often sensed there was more to life, especially in the beauty of creation. In high school, through the invitation of friends, he encountered Jesus Christ and entered the Catholic Church at 17.
While studying at the University of British Columbia, Benjamin became involved with CCO, where he learned to share the Gospel clearly and simply. Feeling called to dedicate his life to proclaiming Jesus, he chose full-time mission work over his original plan to become a teacher. During CCO’s first mission trip to Uganda in 2010, he met Megan, who shared his missionary calling. Together, they now serve as a missionary family passionate about leading others to Christ.

Christy Dupuis - Activate Developer, CCO
Christy is a missionary, speaker, content creator, wife and mother. At 19, Christy had a life changing encounter with Jesus and she was overwhelmed with a desire to share Him with others. Christy has served as a missionary with CCO and in parish and diocesan ministry for nearly 20 years. She is also a co-founder of the Arise Catholic Movement, a women’s ministry in Saskatchewan. Christy resides near Saskatoon with her husband Dan and their four adventurous children.

Holly Leonard - Formation Director, CCO
Holly was profoundly impacted by the truth that God desired a personal relationship with her, in 4th year of university. She found herself asking, “why had I never heard this before??” She responded to a call on her life to commit her plans to a life of full-time mission with CCO at the end of that year. She’s served across many programs developing missionaries in holiness & mission – from campus, to full-time staff – and now with our partners & alumni off-campus. She is confident that Activate will be a place where many missionary hearts will be re-ignited with intimate love for Jesus & those who do not know Him. She lives in Ottawa with her husband Lee and their 4 children.

Worship Team

Verso l'alto - Led by Jackie Lavery, Verso l'alto is CCO's worship ministry.Jackie encountered Jesus in her first year of university. She had her future mapped out in her mind: finish her degree, become a doctor, get married, have children, and be good along the way so that she will eventually get to Heaven. Through the truths in the Discovery faith study, Jesus broke through her fears and anxieties about the future and showed her that He had a good plan for her and that He had already made the way to Heaven: Himself. She decided to no longer live her life for herself but for Him. Upon finishing her degree, Jackie felt a deep call to give her whole life to the Great Commission, and has found incredible joy and peace in serving as a CCO missionary.
